Jammu, Oct 20 (KNO): In a major initiative aimed at positioning Basohli as a prominent destination for water sports, the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council on Tuesday organised a demonstration of rowing, kayaking and canoeing at the Water Sports Complex during the ongoing Basohli Utsav 2026. The event witnessed a large gathering of sports enthusiasts, local residents and visitors, who turned up to witness the aquatic demonstrations. The demonstrations were conducted smoothly with the support of dedicated coaches from the J&K Sports Council. The showcase forms part of the Council’s broader strategy to nurture local sporting talent and promote constructive youth engagement across the Union Territory. A team of officers from the J&K Sports Council, including the Sports Officer Central and Divisional Sports Officer, along with expert coaches, remained closely associated with the event under the overall supervision of Secretary J&K Sports Council Tazayun Mukhtar. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary J&K Sports Council Tazayun Mukhtar (JKAS) said initiatives such as Basohli Utsav 2026 would help introduce local youth to professional water sports. “Through initiatives like Basohli Utsav 2026, our endeavour is to introduce local youth to professional water sports like rowing, kayaking and canoeing,” she said. She further said that the J&K Sports Council remains steadfastly committed to building modern sports infrastructure, providing quality coaching and creating regular competitive platforms across Jammu and Kashmir. “These efforts will empower our young athletes to excel at national and international levels,” she added—(KNO)
